Introducing Joselyn Sky a tremendously talented young lady originality from Colorado, but now resides in California. Joselyn is skilled in multiple instruments which she uses together with a sweet-toned voice, to delight all who listens. She is a true charmer, her smiles will melt even the coldest hearts. When she is performing, her entire being is glistening lighting up the lives of everyone. If a person is feeling down, all one needs to do is pull up Joselyn’s videos and their day will change to one filled with joy.
Currently Joselyn plays three different instruments, piano, harp and ukulele. She started out on the piano when she was four, then ukulele at six, and harp at age eight. Playing her instruments is what she loves, but neither is a favorite, they are all special to her. She loves the piano because she has been playing it the longest and it has come to feel like it’s part of her. The ukulele is easy for her to play and has learned many songs on it. It is also easy to take places. The harp is unique she says and even when you mess up it sounds like angels.
Joselyn says she started singing with her mom before she could talk. Her parents would put her in front of the stereo before she could crawl, turn on the music and she would conduct. Joselyn literally had her first singing experience on stage when she was six. Her story about her first time on stage is as cute as can be, and no one can tell it better than Joselyn herself. Here is what she had to say; When I was six years old, I was at The St. Julien in Boulder, Colorado, where I grew up. There was live music there and my grandma said, ‘Oh Jossy, it’s too bad you can’t go up on stage and sing with them.’ I jumped up out of my seat to run up to the stage and she grabbed me by my shirt and said, ‘Oh no… I didn’t mean it. I was just kidding.’ I slapped her hand away and said, ‘Well I WASN’T!!!’ So I ran up to the stage and asked if I could go get my ukulele out of the car and play a song with them. The lead singer asked me what songs I knew, and I said Hallelujah. He asked me what the first chord was, and I said, ‘C’. Then he asked me what the last chord was, and I said, ‘C’. He shrugged his shoulders and said ‘Okay.’ That was my first time on stage and I loved it!!! I wasn’t afraid at all. It was just fun.” There’s no doubt everyone there was smiling from ear to ear and cheering her on. It would have been a treat to have been there that day.
One of the best times she has had on stage is when she was performing with Michael Franti at White Rock Music Festival in front of three thousand people. For Joselyn it was an awesome experience to be on stage with him. “I wish I could play with him again because it was incredible and there are no words to explain the amazing feeling I had inside of me when I played on stage with him” says Joselyn. She hopes to be able to play at Live Oak, another music festival she goes to.
A dream of her’s is to one day meet Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Joselyn plays so many of their songs it would mean a great deal to meet them. Another favorite she would like to meet is Willie Nelson.
Joselyn has a huge repertoire of songs, but there’s a few that stands out as favorites to her. One of her favorites to sing and play on the ukulele is Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show and Bob Dylan. She says it’s a fun and catchy song. On piano she loves Ophelia by The Lumineers. “You can just be so in the music in that song it feels like you are the song” says Joselyn. On harp she loves to play and sing Life Is Better With You by Michael Franti. She says this song is so sweet, and she loves to play it for her mom and dad.
If you live out in her area, she will be on a local radio show on the 23rd of January. She also goes to farmer’s markets a lot and busk. She says she is saving up for a style 2000 Lyon and Healy pedal harp.
When she’s singing is when she feels most like herself. “It just feels like who I am” says Joselyn. There’s nothing she loves more than music. She hopes when she grows up, she can be a musician.
Joselyn is working hard to make her dreams come true. Not only is she learning more songs, she is writing them as well. To this date she has written three songs. One is about her dog Lupe. Another is about her best friend Aurelia who moved to France for a year. All of her ideas comes from the things happening in her life.
Joselyn is a beautiful girl inside and out. She has the magic in her to warm and sooth any soul. The love she holds for music, and is without doubt, she will fulfill her dream. In fulfilling that dream she will brighten many lives along her journey. She is a true testament to what music and happiness really is.
